Turtlez have announced the launch of a new desktop buddy, George, in time for this year's world cup.
George, an irreverent England fan with a robust sense of humour will not only provide all the news direct to your desktop but will also provide an utterly unofficial commentary on the latest antics of the England team plus a regular flow of jokes, gossip and opinion contributed by fans.
For this world cup, Turtlez have also added a digital screensaver developed by Oxigen that will provide fans with a wealth of statistics, profiles and trivia plus jokes, gossip and fans photos. Unlike a traditional screensaver, it automatically updates itself via the web with new information as it happens. Chris Gay of Turtlez said, "After the success of Mini Motty and Desktop Richie, we wanted to provide a desktop buddy that could bridge the gap between the official news and the comment, gossip & humour of fan message boards. George will give you the news straight as it happens but also share fans' take on what's happening. Boards and blogs have grown like rapid fire since 2002 and we've developed George to reflect that."
George will appear on your desktop every time a new piece of news is received allowing you to read both the news story and George's comments on the story. George also entertains with a variety of different poses depending on the news story, including Shearer & Channon goal celebrations, showing off his England tattoo plus now and again a cheeky moon. George's antics will develop as the world cup progresses with new poses reflecting those of England's players on the field.
The screensaver operates like a normal screensaver displaying every time the PC is left inactive for more then 3 minutes, but rather than displaying a single image rotates through a carousel of flash slides. The slides are updated automatically via the web. Chris Gay said, "The screensaver is a great channel for receiving huge volumes of pre-world cup statistics and trivia as it doesn't interrupt you whilst you're trying to work or require you to wade through a website - obviously it's also just a great way to show your support for England as the screensaver will be seen by everyone around the office or the home." Fans VoiceFans will be able to send their comments, gossip, jokes and photos directly to George for inclusion in both the screensaver and George. Chris Gay explained, "The screensaver is going to constantly change as the England campaign pans out and as fans add their own content and ideas - it will really reflect fans' actual experience of this year's world cup."
